Southern California edison (SCE):
CALIFORNIA CITY SUBSTATION 115 KV UPGRADE BIOLOGICAL SURVEYS

SummitWest provides ongoing support for the proposed 140 mile Cal City Substation 115 Kilovolt (kV) Upgrade Project including wildlife habitat and rare plant surveys, technical reports, Nesting Bird Management and Burrowing Owl Mitigation Plans.

SummitWest provides ongoing environmental service support for the proposed 140 mile Southern California Edison (SCE) Cal City Substation 115 Kilovolt (kV) Upgrade Project. This work has encompassed a series of task orders including conducting wildlife habitat and rare plant surveys, special status species surveys, the collection and analysis of GIS data, and the preparation of a number of technical reports and adaptive management plans that may be revised or modified in consultation with the responsible agencies. Specifically, SummitWest has been responsible for collecting and analyzing data on biological resources, and preparing reports that detail survey findings, full species compendiums, the regulatory framework for all detected species and resources, and possible mitigation strategies. Additionally, SummitWest prepared a Nesting Bird Management Plan (NBMP), which covers all avoidance measures and buffer zones for 350 bird species protected by the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act with potential to occur on the site, as well as prepared a Burrowing Owl Mitigation Plan. SummitWest’s support of the Cal City Substation project is planned to continue into the coming years as the environmental permitting strategy shapes the scope and impact of construction, and SummitWest is able to quickly pivot to adjust project scopes and schedules with updated work orders.
